  • Minimalist Sea Scenes Are The New Trend In Modernist Oil Paintings

As with every genre of art, the world of oil paintings has seen something of a boom in the UK in recent years of a combination of modern minimalist art and traditional sea scenes.

With the boom in UK residents holidaying on the coast in the UK, the demand for a “sea scene” painting has increased considerably, however, buyers are not interested in the old classic scene of rough waves with a yacht – often detailed and highly technical to paint. Instead the type of painting that has really gained the most interest tend to be more “mood” paintings which depict a sea scene – often at sunset, night or at dawn where the technical aspect of the work tends to be more of a reflection of either the sun or moon against a non-detailed sea.

This type of work is done using a “wet-on-wet” technique where the canvas is painted on in one sitting with an initial wet coat of either liquid clear or liquid white (or black gesso) so that the oil paint “flows” thus allowing the artist to really capture the essence of an oily, moody sea scene (flat calm or with small waves)

A recent free art gallery has been launched where just such work can be seen for sale. This new gallery does not charge for artists to post their work and having used it professionally myself, I can tell you it is a very simple process to get work listed quickly. You can also communicate with buyers anonymously through a message board. I have sold several works to date.

Here is what OilPaintingsOnline.com say about themselves:

Oilpaintingsonline was set up to allow other artists to post their site online, either to create their own gallery or to actually sell it.

Anyone can use the site – commercial or non commercial, we do not mind. We do not take any commission or charge anything to post, it is all free!
